The Four Steps of Preparedness
1. Make a Plan
Know how your family will communicate and reunite if separated. Identify two meeting places and an out-of-area contact.
2. Build a Kit
Assemble at least 72 hours of supplies: water (1 gallon/person/day), food, medications, flashlight, radio, documents.
3. Stay Informed
Sign up for Calhoun CodeRED alerts. Monitor the NWS and local media. Know when Calhoun County issues warnings.
4. Get Involved
Join or support the Calhoun County CERT program. Volunteers are a critical part of community resilience.
Know Your Hazards
Calhoun County faces a range of natural and technological hazards. Knowing what threats exist in your area helps you prepare effectively.

Emergency Supply Kit Checklist
Build a kit with at least 72 hours of supplies for every person in your household, including pets.
- Water — 1 gallon per person per day for at least 3 days
- Non-perishable food — 3-day supply per person
- Battery-powered or hand-crank NOAA Weather Radio
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- First aid kit
- 7-day supply of prescription medications
- Copies of important documents (ID, insurance, medical records) in waterproof container
- Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
- Cash in small bills
- Extra set of car keys
- Blankets or sleeping bags
- Local maps
- Pet food, water, and supplies if applicable
- Infant formula, diapers, and baby supplies if applicable
